Yes, solar does work when there is considerable shading, however the output is lesser than when there is complete sunshine. In areas where there is considerable shading, our assessor would search for an alternative spot on your roof and/or propose optimizers and/or micro-inverters which optimise the electricity produces by the solar panels.
In general, yes, the age of the roof/complexity doesn’t make a difference for getting solar, however our assessors would conduct an end-to-end site assessment to verify if the roof would be strong enough to hold the weight of the panels. Alternatively, the assessor might suggest an alternative roof e.g. shed/granny flat, etc for the installation of the solar panels.
Yes, solar panels do produce electricity during winters, however the output is lesser than that during summers. This is because the intensity of the sunlight reaching the solar panels is much lesser which directly contributes to the diminished solar electricity production during winters.
Yes, the roof direction is a key factor for getting solar. Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere and as a result, and roof facing north would get sunshine throughout the day, i.e. when it rises in the east until it sets in the west. As a result, any roof facing north is most ideal for a solar PV system installation. Next, between east and west, the western roof is preferred as the sun is in the west for a longer time (especially during the summers). South is generally not preferred, unless there is absolutely no other alternative and even then, the panels would be installed on tilts facing the north direction.
There are 2 main components of a solar PV system:
1. Solar Panels: This component is usually placed on the roof and converts sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity. Each panel has a wattage e.g. 400 W. The total number of these panels connected multiplied by the wattage of an individual panel is the total size of the solar system installed. E.g 20 panels, each 400 W = 8 kW solar PV system
2. Inverter: This component is usually place near the meter box/switchboard and convert the direct current electricity produced by the panels into usable alternating current electricity. The inverter to be selected will depend on the size of the solar PV system and number of electricity phases on the property.
Product warranty is the warranty that guarantees the product will continue working until the period expires.
Performance warranty is the warranty that guarantees the product will deliver a percentage of its rated output until the period expires, based on a linear degradation model.
Feed-in tariffis the amount paid by your electricity retailer for any additional solar generated and sent back to the grid. There is a minimum threshold set by each state authorities for the value of feed-in tariff, however some electricity retailers can give you a better rate. Whether feed-in tariff is worth it or is it better to store that extra electricity in an energy storage system depends on each individual circumstance, which our assessors would discuss with you.
